Bunaken Dive Trip

Who doesn’t know Bunaken? Okay I don’t really know if Bunaken is that famous, but I bet most of you who read my blog know exactly where is Bunaken and really wanna go there. So do I.

1. One of the beach in Bunaken Island
Bunaken is an island of 8 km², part of the Bunaken National Marine Park. Bunaken is located at the northern tip of the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia. It belongs administratively to the municipality of Manado. Scuba diving attracts many visitors to the island.Bunaken National Park extends over an area of 890.65 km² of which only 3% is terrestrial, including Bunaken Island, as well as the islands of Manado Tua, Mantehage, Nain and Siladen. The waters of Bunaken National Marine Park are up to 1,566 m deep in Manado Bay, with temperatures ranging between 27 to 29 °C. It has a high diversity of - corals, fish, echinoderms or sponges. Notably, 7 of the 8 species of giant clams that occur in the world, occur in Bunaken. It also claims to have seven times more genera of coral than Hawaii, and has more than 70% of all the known fish species of the Indo-Western Pacific.

I was born in North Sulawesi, I am pure Minahasa by blood, and I lived there for 3 years during my high school, but guess what? I never went to Bunaken before. Then came this opportunity. One of my diver friend, Mbak Sarah told me she would have a trip to Bunaken in Idul Adha holiday and I decided to join her. It was my first diving trip, and I go directly for Bunaken. Excited so much, but a little bit scared of course, because as I know Bunaken has a hard current that I never met before in Pramuka island.

The trip was 5D4N and I got 7 dives, arranged by Mbak Sarah and Minahasa Divers dive center. The trip itself was a really fun trip. The divers were so crazy and we’re all having fun. The boat was really good, the food was good, and Bunaken, oh-my-God, it’s so BEAUTIFUL! And I was like saying to myself, where the hell you have been for this long time and you never visited Bunaken before!

Bunaken has many dive spots, and I visited Sedona corner for check dive, Lekuan 3, Muka Kampung, Parking Area, Siladen 1, and Bunaken Timur 1. The underwater contour in Bunaken mostly is a wall, and you really couldn’t see how deep it is. The current was really hard and going everywhere. We met the down and up current. I met a really big turtle, scorpion fish, big sea fan, some cute nudiebranch, lion fish, black nemo, and so on. I don’t even remember it all now. The Parking Area spot is interesting because it is a human-built spot where they put old motorcycle and arrange it like a real parking area.

The Bunaken island itself, I am sorry and sad to say, is not as pretty as I imagine. I couldn’t find a beautiful beach. There were trash everywhere and the island was flooded by little shop and seller who offered food, drinks, and snorkeling package

We ended the trip by having a farewell diner, and I did a surprise for the diver. We serve “babi putar” and everyone is like “wooww”. As the trip has ended, we took the flight off to Jakarta, and back to our reality.

If you are a diver and don’t know where to look for a trip, you can contact Mbak Sarah. Or if you are in Manado right now, you can go directly to Minahasa Divers at Manado Tateli Resort (was Sedona Hotel). And if you are not a diver, you can do snorkeling there, but better if you go and get a diving course RIGHT NOW! :)

Tandem Sky Diving in Thailand

As you guys know, I am obsessed with adrenaline rush and extreme sport, and sky diving is one of my list. I've been wanting to do a jump since a long time ago but because of my lack of information and no time to do that, I postponed it.
Then, my father has a good friend who is a sky diver, he is part of air army and he says how if I try a tandem jump first before I decide to take a free fall course. And I find it as a very good idea, since my father totally doesn't give me permission for do a free fall hahaha I don't need any parents sign to do a tandem sky diving (but later I find that in my age, which is 21 at the moment, I don't even need any parents sign to have a free fall course. But of course where could I have the money to pay the expensive course?!)

So, me and my family went to Bangkok for summer holiday last July (2013) and I googled there is a drop zone in Bangkok, not exactly, but closer to Pattaya. It is at Sriraca. I arrange a trip to Pattaya and had a stop at the drop zone without my mother permission hahaha but I already booked a jump, and she just like "just do what do you want, whatever..." (sorry mom :p)

The drop zone is a little bit far from the main way, but I have the direction from the web so I could find it easy enough. The sky diver there were so kind and made me not afraid of jumping. I say it was a really expensive jump. Because the plane could only bring you, your instructor, and the photographer. The documentation is expensive too! But what can I say, it's really worth it!

I jump from a plane, tandem with my instructor (sorry I forgot the name), from 13000 feet (4000m) up in the sky!
It was really fun to feel it, but for me my adrenaline rush faster in bungee. Maybe because I still have instructor behind me.

Just ignore my weird face :p

Landed safely

And I was so satisfied!

I suggest you all to book first if you want to try and take the package because it is really worth to have your jump pictures! Come to the drop zone early so you won't be waiting for the jump.
